For over 20 years, Windham Packaging LLC has provided experienced professional help to numerous companies in the fresh produce industry. We were designing packaging films for the fresh produce industry before breathable films were recognized as a necessity. Our strengths come from in-depth knowledge of the factors affecting produce quality, including fresh-cut processing and its effects on quality. We couple that knowledge with our expertise in identifying packaging film requirements and manufacturing those films for our customers' unique product characteristics.

We provide extensive technical assistance to our customers. Our hands-on approach to problem-solving is based on actual industry practices. So when we assist you with package selection, you know that all aspects of produce processing, storage, and distribution have been considered.

Background on the Owner

Dr. Elizabeth Varriano Marston

Ph.D in Food Science, working in the produce packaging industry for more than 20 years.
Owns patents for O2 flux rate-specific registered laser microperforation of plastic films for fresh produce packaging.
While at Hercules, Inc., once a major plastic film manufacture in DE, she led the team that developed and patented the breathable film that was the key element of the FreshHold controlled atmosphere membrane, the first breathable membrane for fresh produce shelf-life extension. This technology received the R&D 100 award in 1989 and the DuPont Packaging Award for packaging innovation in 1989.
Her team developed and computerized extensive data collections to identify O2 flux packaging requirements for fresh produce based on produce respiration rates, storage temperatures and fresh produce physiological characteristics.
Publisher of Produce Technology Monitor from 1990 - 2002, considered by many as the "technical bible" for fresh-cut processing and packaging for the produce industry.
